Using resources responsibly
We exclusively source wood from local forests and salvaged timber, ensuring that every handcrafted piece is a responsible use of resources. This process brings raw, natural vitality to our work.

The concept of reusing lumber and building with locally available materials isn't new to us; it's part of the Appalachian heritage of woodworking in Virginia. Early American craftsmen didn't have the option of importing processed lumber; they had to cut and mill it themselves.Â

Our process always starts with an old tree and a chainsaw. We find standing deadwood on our 80-acre farm, collect logs from neighbors and friends, and pull fallen timber out of the woods with a truck or tractor. We hire local sawyers to but these logs into boards, and air-dry them in a barn. After plenty of curing, we plane them smooth, cut to length, and form them into quality pieces of craftsmanship.
